Impact extrusion is a term used in the metalworking industry to describe a specific type of metal forming. It is a process in which the metal is formed into a specific shape under high pressure and the action of heat. Impact extrusion is also referred to as closed-die forging or die forging. In this process, the metal is clamped between two or more tools, called dies, and deformed under high pressure. Heating the metal softens it and makes it easier to form. Impact extrusion is used primarily for the production of complex metal parts which must have high strength and hardness, such as turbine blades, crankshafts or chassis components. The process is also used in the aerospace industry and power generation.
